Pattanarak Foundation History
Pattanarak Foundation was founded in 2000 by former members of the Southeast Asian Thai-based NGO, Population & Development International (PDI).  Since 1994, PDI conducting community development projects and target groups similar to those of Pattanarak's current focus in Thailand. Pattanarak's founding members decided it was more effective to implement alternative development programs through grassroots methods within the remote communities along the Thailand's rural borders. When Pattanarak was founded, very few organizations had programs to address the needs of the growing populations of stateless and disadvantaged people.    Pattanarak began programs in the Sangkhlaburi District, Kanchanaburi Province, and Kong Chiam, Ubon Ratchatani Province, since these areas had significant numbers of people who unable to receive aid from the governmental and non-governmental organizations.

What does "Pattanarak" mean?
Pattanrak is derived from two Thai words : "Pattana" meaning "Development" "Anurak" meaning "Conservation"

Pattanarak Projects
Since its inception, Pattanarak has strengthened its presence within the target communities through programs such as

• Woman’s Indigo Dye Production

Vision Statement
Along the Thai-Laos and Thai-Burma border, there are large groups of disadvantaged and stateless people who are unable to access the traditional sources of humanitarian and government aid.  Pattanarak’s goal is to work with these groups to in order to enhance the quality of life through improving health and nutrition, facilitating dignified ways of earning income, and using local wisdom to guide environmental preservation.

Mission Statement
To form long-term partnerships with remote populations along Thailand’s borders in developing appropriate strategies and campaigns as well as engaging with local institutions that effectively support socio-economic development, improved health status, and natural resource preservation.
